Beer: Say Yes to a Cold Sip

Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter:
it’s hard to beat the satisfaction of an ice-cold beer grabbed straight from the fridge!

Sometimes all we want is something tasty, that takes less than 10 seconds from can to first precious sip…

The non-alcoholic beverage market is one of the fastest growing & developing of the past decade, but it’s fair to say that beer has been leading the way but was a tough nut to crack! This is in part due to a thankfully weakened culture of toxic masculinity (“it’s not beerwithout alcohol!”) & in truth because some of the first non-alcoholic offerings- like all trailblazing ideas- needed refinement. Well, it’s a great time to be alive Healthy Hedonists! Since the first 0% beer in Prohibition there has been huge growth in the category, with experts breaking down exactly what makes beer so delicious… and spoiler, it isn’t the alcohol!

Beers with less or no alcohol present in the final brew are known as light beer, small beer, small ale or near-beer. Amusingly, these are closer to the origins of “beer” than the higher strength products that are fashionable today; as a safer alternative to water that was intended for consumption in large volume. According to UK regulation, to be considered as non alcoholic a beverage must be no more than 0.5% ABV (alcohol by volume) since trace amounts will often be present in fermented products (like apple juice, rye bread, bananas and even in your stomach due to digestion!) but not at sufficient levels to affect your blood-alcohol level. So even if you drink several pints of 0.5% beer quickly, your body will process the alcohol in real-time (neat!). Likewise, a pint stops being considered “low alcohol” at 1.2 %.
