Let’s talk coffee beans Healthy Hedonists! ….

Or should we say seeds? Yes, those little brown nuggets are in reality the ‘stone” from coffee “cherries”. These ripen from green through to bright red: are picked, processed & dried, then roasted to various degrees according to taste. As we’re sure you know, these are then ground & brewed with hot water to make… (Yeah, you guessed it!) More than just a beverage, coffee is a culture that transcends borders & has been enjoyed from as early as the 15th century. In much the same way as alcohol, it is seen across cultures as a social enabler & rite of passage from childhood into the “adult” world. We want to showcase the ways in which coffee- in moderation (don’t go crazy!)- can have benefits.. and certain studies show that you could be getting more from your morning brew, than just propping open those eyelids! Plus it wouldn’t be La Maison Wellness without some delicious Mindful Cocktails and we’ve got you covered with some recommended quality products & most important, recipes :)

Reason 1 why we ♥️ coffee

It makes you awake! Using coffee as an ingredient is a fantastic pick-me-up: an effect many of you want from a cocktail. Caffeine is a stimulant, which means it raises your heart rate & blood pressure to rejuvenate your mood. We recommend waiting at least an hour after waking up before that morning ‘cup of joe’, however, as it also influences hormones. Just sayin’!

Reason 2

It’s high in polyphenols and various antioxidants. Some studies even suggest it has a positive effect on your microbiome!

Reason 3

It’s delicious! Coffee has been featured in cocktails since the creation of the Irish coffee in the 1940s (and almost certainly before!) However, its current booming popularity dates to the 1980s when bartender Dick Bradsell dreamed up the classic espresso martini -ostensibly for Naomi Campbell. The bitter notes of coffee work so well in Mindful Cocktails and its fruity astringency gives that grown up, not overly sweet flavour that people often mistakenly believe cannot be achieved in non-alcoholic drinks. As we hope you are learning, alcohol is also far from the only ingredient to have noticeable effects on the body… Get ready to dance all night after one of our coffee-based recipes!

Just remember, caffeine tolerance is different for everyone. Like most ingredients, the key is to enjoy in moderation & listen to what your body tells you. At La Maison Wellness, we’ve thoroughly explored the subject (the sacrifices we make for you Healthy Hedonists!) & highly recommend the following products:
